Jessalyn Gilsig was born in Montreal where she caught the acting bug as a child. She often dressed up as characters and acted for her family. When she turned 12, her parents finally agreed to let her go on an audition. She quickly landed her first acting job as a voice for an animated short.

Gilsig continued to work while earning an English degree from McGill University. She later went on to study at the presitigious Harvard University.

After Harvard, she moved to New York City where she did stage work and television commercials.

In 1998, she made her feature film debut in The Horse Whisperer and then did voice work in The Quest for Camelot.

A year later, Gilsig gained a guest appearance on the successful law series, The Practice. Her performance impressed show creator David E. Kelley. He asked her to star on his series Snoops. Unfortunately, the series was cancelled, but Kelley didn't forget Jessalyn. He later wrote a role for Jessalyn on Boston Public.

Jessalyn later went on to do Broadway work and landed some guest starring roles on the hit series Without A Trace and NYPD Blue. She is currently starring on the critically acclaimed Nip Tuck.
